Goolengook VEAC Study
Since 1995, there has been a great deal of conflict and numerous forest protests in the Goolengook area over clearfell logging of high conservation valued forest.
This conflict has resulted in the State Government referring the area known as "Goolengook forest block" to the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council(VEAC) to determine how much old growth forest in Goolengook should be protected from logging practices and placed within a permanent reserve. See VEAC web site.
The image below shows the Goolengook forest block as a thick yellow line. Goolengook is located at the southern end of the Errinundra National Park shown as a red line.

The image above shows three RSOS (67,72,73) within the Goolengook forest block along with a significant amount of cool, warm and warm overlap temperate rainforest.
Submissions to a draft VEAC proposals paper closed on the 4th of August. Another opportunity to lodge submissions will occur in early 2007.See VEAC web site for details.
VRN provided a detailed submission that focused on rainforest and RSOS issues within the Goolengook forest block.
